NANETTE CARTER
Renowned for her oil on mylar technique, Nanette Carter is referred to by many as a visual storyteller. Her work considers the sight, sound, and rythms of place as a series of phychological and physical boundaries to be dealt with. Born in Columbus, Ohio, and graduating from Oberlin College in 1976, she went on to earn her MFA from Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, New York, where she is currently a professor. Ms. Carter has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards including a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship and a Pollak Foundation grant. Her works are represented in many museums across the United States including the Studio Museum of Harlem, The Newark Museum, the Shcomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library, and the Library of Congress.
