A Graduate Level Course of Study in Science Content and Pedagogy for Middle School Teachers

 

Five 3-credit Graduate Level Courses

Science pedagogy course:
• Topics in Science Education (EDUC 642)

Three courses in science content/pedagogy selected from the following:
• Science Curriculum and Instruction (EDUC 641)
• Energy Across Systems (SCEN 567)
• The Nature of Matter (SCEN 5xx)
• Change in Living Systems (BISC 5xx)
• Earth and Space Cycles (GEOL 543)

One of the following interdisciplinary math and science courses:
• Proportional Reasoning in Mathematics and Science (MATH 587 or SCEN 5xx)
• Quantitative Literacy and Scientific Inquiry (SCEN 567, also cross-listed as MATH 567, titled Statistics and Probability for Middle School Teachers)

Successful completion of the Course of Study requires:
• A grade of C- or better in all 5 required courses
• A GPA of B (3.00) or better over the 5 required courses
