The Task Force on Faculty will be asked to examine all facets of faculty life at the University of Delaware. Specific attention will focus on course staffing patterns across departments, and opportunities for ongoing professional development and renewal for faculty. The task force will also examine programmatic requirements within the academic disciplines, including externally imposed requirements from professional accreditation agencies; University faculty compensation relative to peers; procedures for appointment, promotion, retention, and retirement; and access to appropriate academic support services and teaching resources. Other issues to be addressed by this task force include peer review and post-tenure review procedures, as well as resources for ensuring quality academic advising for students, particularly undergraduates. In addition to the general topical areas described above, the task force will be asked to specifically address:

  • In what ways has technology impacted the quality of faculty life at the University of Delaware, particularly ways in which they meet their professional obligations with regard to teaching, research/scholarship, and service?
  • What structures exist at the University for faculty development related to teaching, and to what extent do faculty utilize these resources? What measures exist with regard to their effectiveness?
  • What evidence is there that faculty are actively engaged in curricular reform and development at the University?
  • What resources exist at the University for fostering research, scholarship, and creative activity among faculty? To what extent are these resources utilized and how demonstrably effective are they?
