MEDT 370 Phlebotomy Practicum

Course Goals

The phlebotomist is the backbone of the laboratory and often the patient's window to the laboratory. Frequently, a patient's first or only encounter with the laboratory is their phlebotomy experience. The quality of laboratory results is dependent upon the quality of the specimen. The primary goals of this course are the introduction of medical technology students to the basics of proper phlebotomy technique and the development of an understanding of the importance of the phlebotomist's role in suitable patient care and quality laboratory results. The course includes lecture, campus laboratory and clinical practicum learning experiences.
