5. What does the patient's
pregnancy have to do with her diagnosis? What can the physician
do to help her?
ANSWER:
Acute
pyelonephritis occurs in about 1-2% of pregnant women. The physician
would start antibiotic treatment
to
fight the infection. The patient will be tested for the
remainer of her pregnancy to ensure that the infection does not return
and that the antibiotics are working properly.
