Case Study: Dark Urine after Strep Throat Answers
5.
The probable diagnosis for this patient is acute post-streptococcal
glomerulonephritis. This type of glomerulonephritis is found
usually 1 to 2 weeks after a streptococcal infection. In order
for post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis to be diagnosed, the patient
must have been infected with specific strains of group A beta-hemolytic
streptococci. These bacteria contain M proteins in their cell
walls. There is a delay in the time between streptococcal
infection and glomerulonephritis infection due to the formation of
antibodies to the streptococcal bacteria.
