the chemical result for leukocytes correlate with the microscopic
results? Answer: Yes, the chemical result for leukocytes and the number of white blood cells seen microscopically do correlate. The reference range for white blood cells is between 0-5 wbc/hpf. Therefore, even though the microscopic results did detect white blood cells in the patient's urine, the count was not significant enough to be considered pathological. For this reason, the chemical test (stix) did not detect the presence of enough wbcs to have the urine test positive for leukocytes. The patient is absolutely fine in regards to the number of white blood cells found in his urine. Back to Questions |
