For what
reason(s)
may the patient’s urine be pink and foamy? Answer: Large amounts of red blood cells in the urine (hematuria) could cause the urine to be pink. Lysed rbcs, due to the urine's hypertonicity (concentrated, specific gravity >1.025), could have caused hemoglobin to be released into the urine, contributing to the pink color as well. The foam could be due to the presence of bilirubin or proteinuria. Since bilirubin is not present in the chemical results and the level of protein is very high, the foam is due to proteinuria.
