  1. The image is of squamous epithelial cells. Squamous epithelial cells rarely have diagnostic significance. The reference range is 0-5/hpf so it is normal in this patient. Large numbers of squamous epithelial cells suggest an improper specimen collection. In this case the urine may not have been a ‘clean catch’.
