1) What condition is this patient most likely suffering
from and what results support this diagnosis?
This person is
most likely suffering from chronic pyelonephritis. This diagnosis
is
based on the fact that the leukocyte esterase stix test result was
moderate,
the blood stix result was small, the protein stix result was 100mg/dL,
the nitrite test was positive indicating the presence of
bacteria, and the specific gravity was low. Also, the symptoms
and history of the patient would indicate probable pyelonephritis as
well. The presence of WBCs, RBC, granular casts, bacteria, and
renal tubular epithelial cells also correlate
with a diagnosis of chronic pyelonephritis.
