Blood tests can help you confirm a
diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome. The following results would be
expected.
- Increased urea nitrogen and
creatinine in the blood suggests kidney damage because the kidney is
usually responsible for removing these wastes from the blood.
- Hypoproteinemia occurs due to
the increased excretion of proteins in the urine.
- Hyperlipidemia occurs because of
the increased synthesis of lipids by the liver and a decrease in their
catabolism. In particular, there would be increased
triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids, and very-low-density
lipoproteins.
