 Case #2: Mysterious Infection ANSWER

3)       What is the likely source of the causative agent and would cranberry juice help?

Trichomonas vaginalis in female patients is commonly associated with gynecological infections.  In rarer cases (as in this patient), It can infect the urethra.  In these patients, the parasite likely originated as a gynecological infection.

Cranberry juice has the ability to make a urine more acidic if ingested in large quantities.  Although this may help with bacterial infections, it will likely be ineffective in this case.
