Correct.

High amounts of protein in the urine are indicative of glomerular damage and coupled with the patient's diabetic background, it is important to note that uncontrolled diabetest can cause this also.  High levels of blood sugar make the kidney's filter too much blood.  All this work is hard on the filters and after many years they start to leak and useful proteins are lost into urine.
