According to Les Krantz's Jobs Rated Almanac published in April 2002, medical technologist ranked thirty-six in a ranking of 250 jobs. Among 32 health careers, medical technologist ranked tenth before registered nurses, physical therapists, physician assistants and surgeons. Criteria for ranking include salary, stress levels, work environment, outlook, security, and physical demands. He utilized data from government, trade groups, and telephone surveys. Careers like architect, emergency medical technician, teacher, osteopath, and U.S. President were on the bottom half of the list.
