Andrew V. Teplyakov Professor
His research focuses on an interdisciplinary area of surface and thin film chemistry and physics. His group has developed several novel approaches to understanding chemical binding on surfaces of amorphous diffusion barrier films, his other interests include surface chemistry of multifunctional molecules, formation and properties of silicon nanostructures on conducting substrates, electron transfer and molecular junctions, and covalent binding of biomolecules to semiconductors. Recently, art conservation, specifically application of spectroscopic methods to understand and predict behavior of surface coatings, such as the ones used for outdoor murals, has become one of the research directions in the Teplyakov group.
In general, research in the Teplyakov group uses a wide array of surface analytical techniques, microscopic characterization, and computational investigations. This research has resulted in over 70 publications. Professor Teplyakov has actively participated in professional activities within AVS and ACS national meetings, organizing multiple symposia. He is a member of the Eastern Analytical Symposium Governing Board. He is also an active member of the Center for Catalytic Science and Technology at the University of Delaware.
