Emily S. Davis
Emily S. Davis received her Ph.D. in English with an emphasis in Global and International Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She teaches courses in the areas of world literature, postcolonial studies, and globalization studies. Her current book project examines how particular literary genres, such as romance and detective fiction, circulate in the global marketplace. In addition to the global book trade, she is interested in how globalization turns human bodies, particularly immigrant bodies and their organs, into commodities. A portion of this research was published as "The Intimacies of Globalization: Bodies and Borders On-Screen" in Camera Obscura: Feminism, Culture, and Media Studies 21.2 (2006): 32-73. She is currently developing a course on global commodity culture focusing on the music industry, film, the organ trade, and the garment industry.
