How do I obtain an ID card, library card, and parking permit?
You can obtain a UD student ID card, which also functions as your library card, by visiting the Student Services Building on Lovett Avenue. The Student Services website at http://www.udel.edu/registrar/ssblist.html also provides links to information about conducting other business with the university, such as registration, parking, and computer services.
To purchase a parking permit, go to http://www.udel.edu/PublicSafety/parkingservices.htm
Do I need a UD e-mail account, and if so, how do I set it up?
All UD students, including those in MALS, are required to maintain an active UD computer account. This account will be used by professors to convey course information and by staff in the MALS Office, the Graduate Office, and so forth. Information on forwarding your UD e-mail to another account appears below, but it is essential to have a working UD account. You will also need the UD username and password for other purposes, such as registering for courses, purchasing a parking permit, and accessing the library's online databases.
To obtain a UD username and password and to initiate your UD computer account, go to http://www.udel.edu/welcome/before-you-arrive.html.
Is it possible to have my UD e-mail forwarded to another account?
Many MALS students prefer to receive their UD e-mail at whatever account they check most regularly, and that's easy to set up. After you establish your UD e-mail account, just go to https://metal1.nss.udel.edu/cgi-bin/auth/network and click on "Forward your e-mail." That will give you the option of forwarding your UD e-mail to the account of your choice.
What else should I know about UD computing services?
Once you have your UD username and password, you'll be able to connect to all UD services, including UDSIS and the library's electronic databases, simply by logging on from your home or work computer. There's no need to install software for this purpose.
UD has many sites at which you will find computers, printers, and technical assistance. Please go to www.udel.edu/sites/ for information on hours and locations. Technical assistance is also available at 831-6000 and at www.udel.edu/help.
How do I register for courses?
UD students register for courses online through the University of Delaware Student Information System (UDSIS). Among other things, UDSIS is used to register, to drop or add courses, and to view your unofficial transcript and other UD information. The Registrar’s office has created a tutorial for students in the use of UDSIS. If you experience problems with registration, please contact the office at 831-6075 for help.
Please note that you must register for at least one course in the first semester in which you are admitted to the program. Otherwise, the Graduate Office will automatically drop you, and you will have to be readmitted at a later time. Information about requesting leaves of absence may be found on the MALS website under Current Students.
How do I learn about deadlines, policies, and requirements?
The Graduate Office web page (http://www.udel.edu/gradoffice/polproc/index.html) is an important resource for all UD grad students. This website contains updated information relating to due dates, thesis requirements, graduate policies, graduation procedures, and so forth. Answers to frequently asked questions are available on the MALS website under Current Students, and the online calendar provides information about deadlines, events, etc.
What access will I have to the library, sports facilities, and so forth?
Morris Library is located on South College Avenue. As a MALS student, you have full borrowing privileges as well as access to the library's media center and online databases, which will be discussed in the MALS gateway course (MALS 601). Please note that your borrowing privileges and access to online databases will be suspended in any semester in which you do not register for classes, although you will still be able to use the library materials onsite.
Information about access to sports activities and recreational programs may be found at http://www.udel.edu/sportsinfo/ |
