UGopher: the U-DISCOVER! Client for DOS

What is contained on this disk?
There are two programs on this disk: UGopher and CShow.

What is UGopher?
UGopher is a character-based, DOS Gopher client that was developed at the University of Texas Health Science Center. The version on this disk has been modified by the University of Delaware to support local requirements and to provide additional functionality such as SIS/Plus student information access. It may be distributed only to University of Delaware students and members of its faculty and staff.

What do I need to use UGopher?
To use UGopher, you must have an Ethernet connection and PC/TCP telnet software. This software is available from the Computer Warehouse. You must also have at least 208K of space available on your hard drive in order to install UGopher.

What is CShow?
CShow is a program that allows you to view graphic images on your monitor. It is product of Canyon State Systems of Sedona, Arizona. This software may be distributed only to University of Delaware students and members of its faculty and staff.

What do I need to use CShow?
You must have at least 240K of space available on your hard drive in order to install CShow.

How do I install the programs?
Insert the disk into the appropriate drive and select that drive at the DOS prompt. At the prompt, type install and press the ENTER key. This procedure will install the programs on your hard drive. UGopher will be placed in a directory name \UD\UGOPHER; CShow will be placed in a directory named \UD\CSHOW.

How can I get updated versions of these programs?
As new versions of UGopher and CShow are developed, they will be placed in U-Discover! so you can easily update your software across the network. You can find the latest versions of the software and their "Read Me first" files in U Discover! under the following path:

What if I use MS Windows?
For MS Windows users, there is a Windows Gopher client called HGopher. You can download this software from the network. It is located in U-Discover! under the following path:

Make sure you read the "Read Me First" file to understand the requirements of this software and to learn how to define a Windows icon for HGopher.

How can I use SIS/Plus features with UGopher or HGopher?
You can get o your personal student information by using the gopher clients to access SIS/Plus information. In order to do this, however, you must type your SSN and your PIN. Your PIN is the four-digit number that you use to access your personal information at the SIS/Plus kiosks on campus (in the Student Services Building, at New Student Orientation, etc.) or use UDPHONE to modify your course registration. If you do not remember your PIN, you must go either to the Student Services Building or room 002A Smith Hall for assistance.
