From lynam@copland.udel.edu Thu Aug 2 17:47:05 2001 Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 17:46:48 -0400 (EDT) From: Joy S Lynam To: course-evals@copland.udel.edu, Joseph H Santivasci Subject: notes from 08-02-01 course eval meeting Dick Wilkins will schedule a meeting next week to talk about questions and common questions. He will be in touch to schedule that meeting. The Thursday morning meeting at Chapel Street will not be held at Chapel Street. Please look for Dick's note. Any questions and answer formats you decide can be sent to Lisa Raker or Joy via a file (MS WORD, etc.). We talked about what type question (rated, Y/N ..) results in what reporting format. We will update the prototypes to reflect that discussion. Joy and Lisa Raker will get together with Gabriele and Karen after Aug. 20th to review it. Gabriele will initiate a listing to course-evals@udel.edu of rating text that we will allow. Text is needed for a 4, 5 or 7 point scale. Please comment to the list and we'll populate the form with your recommendations and then get your final approval. Examples: Yuk / Yawn / Hmmmmm / Oh Yeah Very Poor / Poor / Average / Good / Excellent Poorest / Very Poor / Poor / Average / Good / Excellent / Most Excellent (you get the idea) What is the default rating we want to encourage? We will not use N/A as a response option. Forming the question correctly and knowing the class demographics will make the N/A response unnecessary. We will remove the selection (multi-answer) answer option. It is not used now on paper applications and its use is not anticipated. We will modify the reports to reflect course and instructor question grouping. We believe withdrawn students are still in the data. We may need to test for status. Joe, what are all status options? Since withdrawn students have not experienced the whole course, we will check status and not provide the course assessment via this application. In the future, we may want to assess withdrawn students and students who drop a course. We talked about the student view and believe timeouts to be an issue. We will present 5 questions on a web page with "previous step" and "next step" navigation options at the bottom of each page to navigate. We will title each page with "Evaluate your instructor (course)" and the course identifying info. We'll update the report by major to show the top 7 majors and then summarize all other majors in one "all others" category. We will add a total to each major line. We will be in touch regarding the other August meetings. We will probably use smaller group meetings or email conversations to advance this application. We still will need some group meetings though.
