The Department of Linguistics offers the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics as well as undergraduate minors in Linguistics and Cognitive Science . Individualized programs of study leading to the Bachelor's degree in Cognitive and Linguistic Science are available for qualified undergraduates. The Department also offers a program to help undergraduate students prepare for graduate or professional work in Speech Pathology and Communications Disorders. In addition, the Department of Linguistics, with the close cooperation of the Department of Computer and Information Science, the Department of Educational Studies, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Psychology and the Applied Science and Engineering Laboratories, has taken on a central organizing role in Cognitive Science at Delaware. One long range goal of these collaborative efforts is the establishment of a Department of Cognitive and Linguistic Sciences. It is hoped that in the future, in addition to graduate study in Linguistics, the Department will offer a regular undergraduate major in Cognitive and Linguistic Science (in place of the current individualized program of study).
