This page contains hurricane data that was complied for the Delmarva
region. The purpose of this project is to understand the overall time
period, direction, and magnitude of hurricanes, or remnants of them, that
occurred within a standard box. The box was drawn from 35-45 degrees
north latitude and 70-80 degrees west longitude. This is extremely
important because it encompasses Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New
Jersey, New York, and parts of the southern New England states. Hurricane
information was complied for each year of data and consequently, the
earliest record found was 1585. Records from 1585 until 1872 were found
by use of David Ludlum's book, Early American Hurricanes 1492-1870.
