Documentation:
Overview: In NearCoM, REF/DIF 1 is an optional wave module which provides wave forcing for the circulation module and the sediment module.
Use and initialization of the module: Although REF/DIF 1 becomes a subroutine of NearCoM, An input file, indat.dat, is still required by the wave module. The input includes file names for output, subgrid information, physical parameters and wave conditions. Water depth is obtained from the master program though a file name for water depth input is still kept in "indat.dat".
Variables provided by the wave module: The wave module provides 2D (or quasi-3D) circulation modules with wave forcing in two forms: radiation stress and wave force (gradient of radiation stresses). It provides the 3D circulation module with short wave surface stress and body force (see Nearshore POM for detail). In addition, the wave module provides all the wave information that may be needed by the circulation and sediment modules, such as wave height, angle, wave number, wave orbital velocity, wave dissipation rate, wave breaking index, wave mass flux, wave celerity, group speed.
Variables required by the wave module: Water depth (may be updated by the circulation module and the sediment module), depth-averaged current velocity from the circulation module, and wave conditions at open boundaries.
