Course Description
Italian III - Intermediate

Course Objectives
        The goal of this course is to further improve your knowledge of the Italian language through review and completion of basic grammatical structures, and continued practice in all four skill areas: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
 
 











 

Course Policies
Italian 107 is a 70-hour course in intermediate Italian. Successful completion of the course presupposes 70 class hours of direct contact with the Italian language, in much the same way that a laboratory course or any skill licensing course presupposes a predetermined number of contact or practical hours. Nevertheless, students are permitted five unexcused absences except on days when oral and written exams, quizzes, or any other graded activities (e.g. in-class compositions) are scheduled on the syllabus. After five absences for whatever reason (e.g., illness, religious holidays, etc.), your final percentage grade will be lowered by 1% for each additional absence. This excludes absences after the fifth which are due to religious holidays, illness, accidents or other exceptional circumstances. Such absences should be reported promptly and will require written documentation such as a letter from your physician or from the Dean of your college. No such excuses will be accepted one calendar week (seven days) beyond the day on which the absence occurred.

 
Course Requirements

Please remember:
• There are no make-ups for quizzes or exams missed on unexcused absences. The grade for missed quizzes or exams is 0.
• You are expected to study assigned material before each class, and to turn in or be ready to present assignments as indicated by the instructor or in the syllabus. Generally, late work will not be accepted.
• You are required to speak Italian during classes.
• Be prompt in attendance, listen attentively, take notes, participate enthusiastically, ask questions, let everyone speak freely and appreciate the other person’s point of view. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
• 100-level language courses cannot be taken on a pass/fail basis if the course is used to satisfy a requirement or as a prerequisite of a course to satisfy a requirement.









 

The final grade will be based on:
 
 2 written exams (20% each) 40%
4 quizzes (5% each) 20%
2 compositions (5% each)  10%
1 oral presentation  5%
 1 oral exam  10%
 class activities, homework (including WebCT), participation 15%
