A trail-race festival for runners and walkers of
all
ages and abilities benefiting local homeless shelters. Run one
race,
or two! Run the Delaware Trail Marathon,
or run the Triple Crown--3 races, the
Half-Marathon, 10K and 5K, all in one morning! Then stick
around for the Survivors' BBQ starting at
noon!
-
The Delaware Trail Marathon
starts at 7:30 AM.
(Note later start, will be combined
with half-marathon start)
Two loops of the delightfully scenic Half-Marathon course, 13 water/aid
points.
There is no cut-off time for finishing, but water/aid will switch to
self-serve
at noon. Registration:
$35,
includes finisher medal and certificate. Marathon award ceremony
~1PM after the Survivors' BBQ. More
Marathon Info.
- White Clay Trail
Half-Marathon
starts
at 7:30 AM. A scenic 13.1-mile
all-terrain
romp through WCCSP and White Clay Preserve. Course fords White Clay
Creek at mile 10. 6 water/aid points. Registration:
$20,
includes runnin' dawg mug to the first 100 finishers. Half-marathon
award ceremony ~9:50 AM.
- 10K for Shelter starts
at 10:00 AM. This will be the first of Mid-Atlantic
USATF's 2004 Grand Prix trail race series. A creekside
communion
with nature; 6.2 miles up the creek to the PA border and back. 4
water/aid
points. Registration:
$15.
10K award ceremony ~11:05 AM.
-
The Human Race 5K
Run/Walk starts
at 11:15 AM. Our patented
"wasn't
my PR" 3.1-mile trail loop within WCCSP's Carpenter Recreation Area;
"flat
and fast" except for the rocks, roots, steep hills and muddy
parts.
One water/aid point. Registration:
$10.
5K award ceremony ~11:50AM.
- The Triple-Crown (A
unique "whole enchilada" 3-race combo for the judgmentally impaired:
half-marathon,
10K and 5K = 22.4 miles of fun all in one morning!) Registration:
$40/individual (run 'em all yourself!);
$45/team (2 or 3 runners, one runner/race), includes
finisher's mug.
The Triple Crown is scored by sum of finish places (not
combined
times) among TC runners only--low sum wins (tie-breaker rule:
faster half-marathon finish wins). Please note the time intervals
between starts; if you finish one race after the next race has already
started, no problem--just grab some refreshments and head out
again!
If you miss an earlier award ceremony, we'll announce unclaimed
1/2-marathon
and 10K medals after the 5K. Triple Crown award ceremony at noon.
Note: Starting in 2003 we lowered all our race registration
fees, and
don't include a t-shirt with registration. You probably have
enough
t-shirts already, but runners who pre-register can order cool
runnin' dawg t-shirts for $10 each. Shirt orders should
be submitted with your registration; we will only have a few extra
shirts
to sell on race day.
Premiums and emoluments: Finisher medals for all marathon
survivors. Commemorative
runnin' dawg coffee mug for Triple-Crown finishers and
first 100 half-marathon finishers. Lots of free post-race
refreshments plus a Survivors' BBQ for all participants and
volunteers at
noon following the Triple Crown award ceremony: hamburgers, hot dogs,
etc.
(Suggestion: bring lawn chairs--they're a lot more
comfortable
than the park's picnic benches!)
Medals: M&F overall and master (40+) winners plus 1st
places
in 10-year age-groups for each of five events (marathon, half, 10K, 5K
and Triple Crown); 1st place open, women, master and corporate Triple
Crown
teams; 1st place 5K walkers ... 90+ medal categories in all.
Directions: Take I-95 to Delaware Exit 1 (896N); follow
Rt.
896 through downtown Newark;
W.S. Carpenter Recreation Area is on Rt. 896 about 2 miles north of
town on the right.
The park has toilets, phone, covered pavilion, picnic tables with
BBQ's,
plenty of parking....
All races start and finish by the pavilion. Bring lawn chairs
to relax and enjoy the day!
