Dammit, they're
doing it again on Saturday, January
5th, 2008...
pantin' and peein' and sweatin' and
stompin'
all over the beautiful trails of Maryland's Fair Hill Natural Area.
The damn TrailDawgs are puttin' on what is probably
(our memories aren't so good)
the 5th annual Dead-of-Winter
50K PHUNT Run
Standard Fat-Ass format: No Fee, No Frills, No Wimps, No
Whining!
- WHO:
Anybooby who likes to run lots and lots and lots of trails
- WHAT: Join the Dawgs on an unofficial, unsanctioned,
unapproved 31-mile jaunt at Maryland's Fair Hill Natural Area. The course
will be a single loop with cutoffs for marathon and 20K distances.
- WHEN: Saturday January 5th, 2008. Orientation at 8:45AM; race
start at 9AM.
- WHERE: Start/finish is at the Appleton Road SOUTH parking lot
0.5 miles south of the Rt. 273/Appleton Rd. intersection (blinking light),
about 3 miles west of Newark, DE.
- WHY:
Because if you've
read this far, you are almost certainly a trail-runnin' fool who will
truly enjoy freezin' your patoot on a
31 mile nature jaunt. The course is a single loop with one cut-off point
for a lite version of the run, and is mostly hilly single-track trail with no
problematic stream crossings, and just a teensy bit of rocky stuff to satisfy
the trail-running purist. We haven't precisely measured the distance, but it's
95% trail with something like 3,000 ft. of aggregate vertical climb and has
some super views, and anyone who doesn't think the course is long enough
is welcome to run it twice at no extra charge. This run is meant for
experienced trail runners, but anyone
with marathon experience who wants to try an ultra distance and promises not to
whine if they get tired and dirty is welcome. We will have snack/water refill
stations. The course will be marked
with whatever the hell we feel like marking it with.
We hope to have maps and course instructions. Maybe we'll give
out copies!
- COST: We're collecting
$0, zero, zip, nada. You should probably pay the park's nominal parking fee
however. Additional donations to defray our costs will be graciously accepted,
with leftover monies donated to the Pack and park. All participants are
encouraged to bring a snack item for the self-serve aid station or the post
race feed.
- AWARDS? Finishers will be awarded post-race rehydration, hot
dogs, soup and other stuff either at the finish or
nearby, depending on the weather and who shows up.
