COURSE SUMMARY
Students with prior GIS experience serve as peer consultants for student project teams in one of the introductory GIS courses: FREC 480, GEOG 471/671 or GEOG 372. This course is not strictly software-specific, and may offer consultants exposure to alternative GIS packages. The consultant assists the student team in formulating assigned GIS projects into logical sequences of analytic steps, develops his/her own new GIS project for a student team, and presents a seminar on that project. Consultants are encouraged to attend one of the introductory GIS courses as desired, and should familiarize themselves with the student exercises in that course.
Enrolled students are encouraged to co-register for a "Tutorial Methods of Instruction" class. Attend either BISC 422 (D. Allen) or CHEM 467 (H. White). Since you must be enrolled in another biology class to register for BISC 422, Dr. Allen suggests you register for a 1- or 2-credit independent study (FREC or GEOG 666) with either of us instead.
This course is created under the grant "Redesign and Coordination of Curricula for Problem-Based Learning: GIS Instruction at UD" awarded by UD's Problem-Based Learning Steering Committee and funded by the Pew Charitable Trust.
