The group was treated
to an inside look at Delaware State University. We started
in the Education/Humanities Center in the Distance Learning
Lab. This lab is dedicted solely to training DSU faculty in
the use of Blackboard and computer technology. Rayton told
us that this lab is continually busy, so DSU is obviously
working hard at educating their own faculty in the use of
technology.
After this, we walked over to the 3-year old MBNA Building
where the departments of Accounting, Management, and Hospitality
& Tourism Management are housed. This is truly a beautiful
building that houses state-of-the-art technology. The wide
halls are floored in marble and hardwood, the walls contained
limited edition prints, and the overall color scheme is what
is fondly known as "MBNA Green." We toured auditoriums
and classrooms equipped with distance learning equipment -
remote cameras, microphones, multimedia projectors, television
monitors and control rooms. Rayton told us of the conferences
and classes that have been held there - some in cooperation
with the University of Delaware. We missed seeing the Executive
Boardroom, which we were told is a replica of the one that
is housed in MBNA's corporate offices, but did get to tour
a few of the spacious, and busy student labs. If you weren't
able to join us, you can virtually tour
this building from DSU's website. Technology obviously
plays a key role in the life of their college students!
Because of the
length of the tour, we were unable to begin work on our planned
topic of Grants. Wendy will address the group via the listserv
to have members begin to develop what should be a valuable
resource to members who are looking to secure funding in a
very tight budget year.
