Diana McAllister

Lori Roe

Meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM.

This meeting was held at Shields Elementary School in Lewes, Delaware, and hosted by Kathy OHanlon.  Lori Roe facilitated the group discussions. Introductions were made and goals for the meeting were shared.

Major Topic: Grant Resources

Lori shared several grant resources from the web and provided some models of successful grant proposals that were written by teachers for various purposes. The group explored web links for specific grants and shared them through discussion.

Participants discussed the benefits and obstacles of grant writing. Some grants have specific criteria and deadlines for applying, while others are general and open for application throughout the year.  There is funding available from various sources such as local, state, federal, public and private organizations. There are companies that provide grant funding for their own products, such as Scholastic.

Some points to consider:

  • Decide on purpose
  • Look for grants that will support the purpose
  • Plan program for implementation
  • Itemize all costs involved
  • Create assessment for program
  • Organize data  for grant reporting
  • Go for it! There's lots of monies available for educators!

Meeting was adjourned at 7:20 PM.
