Wendy Modzelewski opened the meeting at 5:20 PM with a review of the minutes from the September 12th meeting.  

The following agenda items were discussed:

  • Introductions of members attending

  • Facilitator Tenure. It was agreed when ITUG-DE was formed that Wendy Modzelewski would be facilitator for 6 months; a term that was to end with the October meeting.Discussion was held regarding whether anyone was interested in becoming facilitator and a suggestion was made that she continue in that position for another six months. The attending members agreed that the decision should be made then, and not be put out to a vote on the listserv. All were in favor and the position was accepted by Wendy.

  • DCET Online Course Pilot – a few members from ITUG are currently participating. There are a few slots open if anyone is still interested in joining the Multiple Intelligences class.

  • December Meeting – The December meeting’s topic was Instructional Websites. It was proposed that this meeting become a Member Open House and Holiday Party. The purpose of this meeting would be to open the doors of ITUG to new members and encourage new participants. Discussion was held with regard to door prizes, gifts for bringing a friend, a holiday bake-off with recipes from the Internet. The group agreed that this topic would be more in tune with the holiday season. Therefore the future topics were shifted
  • Future Agendas:
    • November – Digital Cameras
    • December – Member Open House and Holiday Party
    • January – Online Courses – are they for you?
    • February – My Favorite Standards-based Webpage
  • Mock Election – Delaware is participating in the National Mock Election. In cooperation with OIS, a website has been developed to allow students to vote online. Results are called in to CNN and will be broadcast on November 2nd. A second posting of this information will be sent to the group with more specific details. The District Mock Election Coordinator is coordinating this activity. Inquire how your district is implementing this. The website for the Mock Election is http://elba2.state.de.us/mockelection.

  • Featured Topic: How Do I Use My One Computer? Instructional and Management issues
    • Denise Tuck provided us with an opening discussion about philosophy of the One Computer Classroom. Denise suggested that educators need to think about the following statements and what their thoughts are with regard to the one computer in their classroom.

      • Students cannot be using the computer while I am teaching a lesson.
      • I need to monitor students while they are using the computer
      • What is the difference between equal computer time vs. fair share of computer time.
