Reviewed highlights of
May 23 meeting
-
We reiterated that
we would like to keep our meetings flexible and maintain an open
agenda to have time for networking.
-
Meetings will continue
to be held on the 12th of the month, and it is suggested
that we continue to bring snacks to share and our own drink.
-
Confirmed that when
the 12th falls on either a Friday, Saturday or Sunday,
that the meeting will be moved to the following Monday.
-
Technology for ITUG
-
Both the web site and
the listserv are up and running.
-
Reminder, messages
posted to the listserv go to everyone.
-
The listserv now has
about 100 names.
-
Promotion
- Now that we have a name,
one artist has been approached for creating a logo. However, we’re
still looking to approach other artists willing to donate time to
design one. John Hintz volunteered to speak with someone he knows.
Consider making this a school contest.
- Representatives from
each district recently attended a state technology meeting and are
now aware of ITUG. Representatives consisted of technology fixers,
managers, and curriculum people. The hope is that by working from
the top down and from the bottom up, we may all meet in the middle
to establish greater communication and technology awareness.
-
Future meetings
-
Open discussion and
suggestions
-
Stay open, but
over the course of the year, try to do something for four
major content areas.
-
Look at standards first and see how technology works
as a tool to teach a particular subject. Are there vendors
who can discuss integration of their software with standards?
-
Teachers would
be interested in seeing new software and defining computer
literacy.
-
We would like to
hear from other teachers who have already used software in
unique ways.
-
To further establish
the sense of community and our primary objectives of networking,
we should share among ourselves what we already know, use,
or have researched.
-
Postpone vendor-based
meetings. Right now we’re not particularly interested in
a sales pitch, but later we may require the expertise of a
vendor.
- When vendors are
present, people are hesitant to talk freely and openly about
a product. It inhibits conversation and eliminates the networking
and sharing of information that ITUG is about.
-
