Mac OS X Mail junk mail filtering (Tiger 10.4.x)
The following instructions will help you get the most use from Mac OS X Mail's junk filtering. By default, Mac OS X Mail will attempt to identify and label incoming junk mail. To enhance the accuracy of junk filtering, you must help Mail identify junk messages during your initial use.
- To begin, add the Junk icon to your
toolbar if it's not there already:
- From the View menu, click Customize Toolbar.
- Drag the Junk icon to your toolbar, then click Done.
- To identify a "junk" message,
choose the message, then click the Junk
icon in the toolbar. If a message has
been incorrectly identified as junk,
select the message and click the Not
Junk icon.

After Mac OS X Mail starts to identify junk mail appropriately, you can choose to automatically move the messages it marks as junk to your junk mailbox on the UD server:
- From the Mail menu, click
Preferences. Click the Junk Mail
icon.

- Click the radio button next to Move it to Junk mailbox (Automatic).
- You must quit and restart Mail for the changes to take effect. From the Mail menu, click Quit.
- Relaunch the Mail application and provide your password when prompted.
- From the Mail menu, click
Preferences. Click the Junk Mail
icon.
