Microsoft Outlook setup for Google Apps @UDel.edu email

If you prefer to access your email through Microsoft Outlook, follow these steps to set up your account:

  1. Obtain your Google Apps @UDel.edu password.

  2. Set up a Google Apps @UDel.edu IMAP account.

To set up your Google Apps @UDel.edu IMAP account:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook 2007/2010.
  2. Click File.
  3. Click Add Account.

  5. In the Add New Account window:
    1. Select Manually configure server settings.
    2. Click Next.

  6. In the Add New Account: Choose Service window:
    1. Verify that Internet E-mail is selected.
    2. Click Next.

  7. In the Internet E-mail Settings window, fill in the following information:
    • User Information:
      1. Type your name in the Your Name field.
      2. Type your UdelNetID@udel.edu in the E-mail Address field.
    • Server Information
      1. Select IMAP from the drop down Account Type list.
      2. Type imap.gmail.com in the Incoming mail server field.
      3. Type smtp.gmail.com in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field.
    • Logon Information
      1. Type your UdelNetID@udel.edu in the User Name field.
      2. Password: This is the googleapps password you obtained from the http://www.udel.edu/network page.
    Click the More Settings button.

  9. Click the Advanced tab.
    • Incoming server (IMAP): [993]
      1. From the Use the following type of encrypted connection pull-down list, select: SSL.
        The port number automatically changes.
    • Outgoing server (smtp): [587 ]
      1. From the Use the following type of encrypted connection pull-down list, select: TLS.
      2. Change the port number from 25 to 587 (or 465).

  10. Click the Outgoing Server tab.
    1. Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication check box.
    2. Click Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
    3. Click OK to close the window.

  11. In the Add New Account window, click the Test Account Settings button.
  12. You should see a pop-up window like the one below that shows the tests have Completed.

    1. Click Close to close the pop-up window.
    2. Select the Test Account Settings by clicking the Next Button check box to remove the check mark.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Click Finish.
