Faculty/Staff Checklist for Returning to Campus

Set up emergency notification.
- Learn about using UD's P.O. Box application.
Perform any of the following steps that apply to you.
- Voice Mail
- Turn off the extended absence Voice Mail greeting (see question #11 in the Voice Mail FAQ) or
- Review Voice Mail general information.
- Practice good computer security.
- Computer security responsibilities
- UD's Computer Security Web site provides information on Security News, Computer Security at UD, Internet dangers, Identity theft and Internet fraud, and provides Best Practices, and checklists for secure computer use.
- Ask your departmental IT Professional to verify that your office computer is properly secured, or if you do not have an IT Professional, see the Computer Security Checklists (Windows or Mac) for vital steps to protect your computer.
- Install UD-licensed software as needed from the UDeploy software distribution site.
- UDeploy has useful software, including McAfee Anti-Virus software, which the University provides for all University-owned computers and all computers owned by employees and students. Your computer should have this software installed as evidenced by the McAfee icon
in your Windows machine's system tray (the bottom-right corner of your screen, next to the time) or your Macintosh's menu bar. If you do not see this icon, check with your IT Professional or contact the IT Support Center. - McAfee is configured to update virus definitions at computer startup. Read more about McAfee and keeping it up-to-date.
- Download any other UD-licensed software—browsers and utilities—as needed.
- UDeploy has useful software, including McAfee Anti-Virus software, which the University provides for all University-owned computers and all computers owned by employees and students. Your computer should have this software installed as evidenced by the McAfee icon
- Reactivate reception of UD email:
- If you had set an Automatic Reply in Webmail Direct to inform senders that you were unavailable to read UD email, turn off the reply.
- If your UD mail was forwarded to another account, remove email forwarding:
- Log in to the University of Delaware Network.
- Choose "Forward your E-mail." Your current forwarding information will be listed.
- Choose "Remove forwarding."
- Use Webmail Direct to access UD email. If you have not already done so, Log in, Set Preferences and Activate the Spam Filter. Once activated, probable spam is directed to the Junk Mail folder. You should check daily to confirm that valid email has not been directed there. See the Webmail Direct documentation if you have questions.
- Other email options
- Restart Maillists.
- Check out new and revised information:
- Firefox browser recommended for Windows and Macintosh.
- Responsible Computing: A Manual for Staff - State law requires us to notify employees that their electronic communications may be monitored and requires an acknowledgement of notification. If you have not already done so, go to https://primus.nss.udel.edu/hb539/ and indicate your understanding.
