Disable File Sharing: Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger)

Turning off File Sharing will prevent access to files on your computer, thus making it more secure. To disable File Sharing, follow these steps:

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
  2. In the System Preferences window, click the Sharing icon, highlighted in the graphic below:

  3. Click the Services tab if it's not already active.
  4. If Personal File Sharing is turned On, uncheck the box to turn it off. The window should now look similar to the one below:

  5. Close the Sharing window.
