Uninstalling other anti-virus programs from a Windows computer
Some software conflicts with McAfee VirusScan. If your computer has other anti-virus software, you should remove that software before installing the UD-customized version of McAfee VirusScan. Other common anti-virus software includes—but is not limited to—the following:
- Any pre-installed McAfee product (NOTE: You should remove McAfee copies that are from sources other than the University of Delaware. For example, a promotional copy that came with your computer, a copy that you purchased with a retail license, or a copy from a previous school or employer.)
- avast
- AVG Anti-Virus
- BitDefender
- Bullguard
- eTrust
- F-secure
- Kaspersky Antivirus
- Norton Antivirus or Internet Security
- Panda Antivirus
- PC-cillin
- Trend Micro's HouseCall
Uninstalling software on a Windows 7 or Vista computer
- Click Start.
- Click Control Panel.
- Click Programs.
- Click Programs and Features.
- Click to highlight the name of the program you want to remove.
- At the top of the window, click Uninstall.
- After the program is uninstalled, if necessary, highlight the name of any additional program you want to remove.
- Click Uninstall.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all programs you want to remove have been.
- When you finish removing programs, close the Programs and Features window.
- If prompted, restart your computer.
Uninstalling software on a Windows XP computer
- Click Start in the lower-left corner of your computer's monitor.
- Click Settings | Control Panel.
- Double-click the icon for Add/Remove Programs.
- Highlight the name of the program you wish to remove.
- Click Add/Remove.
- If necessary, highlight the name of any additional program you wish to remove.
- Click Add/Remove.
- Repeat steps 6 and 7 until all the programs you want to remove have been removed.
- When you finish, close the Add/Remove Programs window.
- When you are finish removing programs, if prompted to do so, reboot your computer.
