Beginning February 10, “Speaking of Teaching” features University of Delaware faculty who have been honored for their outstanding contributions to education locally and nationally.
This presentation focuses on developing students' critical thinking and analytical skills, drawing from Magee's experience in teaching constitutional law. James Magee is a professor of political science and international relations, and is a three-time recipient of the UD Excellence in Teaching award as well as a recipient of the UD Excellence in Advising award.
This presentation will explore the challenges and controversies of synchronous and asynchronous distance education from both the student and the faculty perspective. Questions addressed include “Which format is better?”, “For whom?” and “Why are we doing this?” Janice Selekman is a professor of nursing and recipient of the Excellence in Education Award from the Society of Pediatric Nurses, the Nurse Educator Award from the Delaware Nurses Association and the School Nurse Educator of the Year from the National Association of School Nurses.
During this panel discussion, members of the Delaware Design Institute will discuss development and implementation of their multidisciplinary, design-oriented courses. Jules Bruck is an assistant professor of plant and soil sciences; Terry Harvey is an assistant professor of computer and information science and recipient of the UD Excellence in Teaching award; Tony Middlebrooks is a professor of public policy and administration and recipient of the UD Excellence in Advising award; and Troy Richards is an assistant professor of art.
This presentation will discuss the challenges and successes of developing students’ geographic perspectives as a way of looking at the world. Peter Rees is an associate professor of geography and Latin American studies, and is a recipient of the Higher Education Distinguished Teaching Award from the National Council for Geographic Education of as well as a recipient of the UD Excellence in Advising award.
