On Friday October 13th, the Lerner College will be hosting a symposium on student learning. Sponsors include the Lerner College, ITUE, the PRESENT, and Lerner’s MIS Program. All sessions will be held in Lerner 125.

The keynote will be presented by Professor Larry Spence. Dr. Spence is a learning consultant for the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology. He served from 2001-2006 as the Director of Undergraduate Learning Initiatives in that college. In 1995, he founded Penn State's Schreyer Institute for Innovation in Learning and served as director until 2000. A winner of the Lindback award for outstanding teaching in 1986, he was chosen Alumni Teaching Fellow in 1992. Dr. Spence has participated in many undergraduate teaching initiatives including the first honors cluster courses, writing across the curriculum courses, co-directed the political science department's honors program, and the application of quality principles in the classroom. He is the author of The Politics of Social Knowledge and various articles on political theory and the reform of higher education.

Breakfast will be served at 9am. The keynote will start at 9:30, and sessions will follow. The symposium will conclude with a panel discussion with Dr. Spence and recognized teaching innovators at the Lerner College. Lunch will also be provided.
