What Happens When You Teach with Outcomes in Mind?

Facilitated by Zohreh Emami, Professor of Economics and Donna Englemann, Associate Professor of Philospohy, Alverno College, Milwaukee, WI

The integration of problem-based learning and other active learning strategies in the classroom are important, but how do we know if and what students are learning? Along with a short discussion on emerging trends in teaching and assessment in higher education, presenters from Alverno College will share their educational assumptions about teaching and learning, and how assessment of classroom learning can be accomplished. Leaders from Alverno College, with its outcomes-based curriculum and assessment-as-learning approach for more than 20 years, have been active contributors to the dialogue about teaching and learning. A large part of the half-day workshop will be devoted to hands-on work for participants interested in exploring outcomes for their students' learning.

To ensure that all interested UD instructors get to attend this important workshop, it will be presented in the morning on March 1, and repeated again that afternoon. The morning workshop will be held in Room 101C Pearson Hall, 9am-noon. The afternoon workshop will be held in Room 208 Gore Hall, 2:30-5pm.

Please be sure to attend this informative session. To reserve your place, send e-mail with time preference to cte-reg@udel.edu or phone Karen Spry at 831-2027.

Sponsored by the Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Planning and the Pew Charitable Trusts Problem-Based Learning Project. Co-sponsored by the Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education and The Center for Teaching Effectiveness.
