highlighting how technology can enhance learning. Hear about the process
for developing and implementing technology-enhanced modules. Other
topics may include lessons learned and the impact of technology on
the traditional classroom.

- Each presenter is the recipient of a Technology Assistance Grant
from the PRESENT and an ITUE fellow.

Beginning January 15 morning hands-on sessions will introduce specific
WebCT tools. In the corresponding afternoon sessions, an experienceD
WebCT faculty user will guide participants through exercises designed
to connect those tools to their own courses. Listed below are the afternoon

Using DISCUSSION GROUPS for Active Learning
Date: 1:30-4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15
Where: 116 Pearson Hall
This session is designed to make personalized, specific use of discussion
groups feature. Valerie Hans, Criminal Justice, will review how she
uses the tool in her classes. She and George Watson and PRESENT staff
will lead a discussion on best practices and exercises for integrating
discussion groups into participants' own classes.
Using WebCT's CONTENT MODULE to Promote Active Engagement with Material
Date: 1:30-4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16
Where: 116 Pearson Hall
This session is designed to show how effective use of the Content Modules
can facilitate active learning. Katrien Christie, Foreign Languages
and Literatures, will review how she organizes her course content in
WebCT. She and a PRESENT staff member will lead a discussion on best
practices and planning exercises for integrating this tool into participants'
own classes.
Using WebCT's GRADING Feature to Assess Student Learning (Intermediate)
Date: 1:30-4:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 17
Where: 116 Pearson Hall
This session will demonstrate ways to personalize the use of the grading
features in WebCT. George Conrade, Hotel Restaurant Management, and
Cathy Davies, Animal and Food Sciences, will review how they use the
grading tool to assess their students' performance. Along with a PRESENT
staff member, they will lead a discussion on best practices and planning
exercises for integrating WebCT grading into participants' own classes.
Using WebCT's PRESENTATION Feature to Promote Student Collaboration
(Intermediate)
Date: 1:30-4:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18
Where: 116 Pearson Hall
This session is designed to show how faculty can increase collaboration
among students through the use of the Student Presentations tool in
WebCT. John Deiner, Political Science and International Relations, will
review how his students have worked in groups to create newsletters
using this feature. Along with the PRESENT staff, he will lead a discussion
on best practices and planning exercises for integrating this tool into
participants' own classes.
