Interests and Activities:
I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in lifespan development and family studies. My primary research emphasis is on fathers and families. Most recently, I have focused on the relationships between fathers' involvement with their children and men's adult development. My book, Involved Fathering and Men's Adult Development: Provisional Balances (2002, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates) details some findings from a long-term research project regarding fathering and development. I am beginning new research focusing on men's midlife development and families' lived experiences.
In addition to my teaching and research, I am involved in a variety of service activities in the community and the University, such as working with local teens, volunteer work with foster children and orphans from inner city settings, and University committee work.
My teaching, research and service are each informed by my lived experiences with Judy, my wife, and my sons, Nathan, Collin, Ian and Shane. Hobbies include mountain biking, nature photography, guitar playing and cooking.
