Resolution from University of Kansas Council Regarding International Students

Approved by Council 3/13/03

The University Council of the University of Kansas remains committed to all international students and programs as vital to the university's educational mission and the need for good will and understanding between countries and cultures. We strongly object to federal policies that undermine the success of the these programs by fomenting an atmosphere of fear and suspicion of foreign students on university campuses; through inflexible interpretation of INS rules and unnecessary aggression in their enforcement; and through cooptation of international programs for enforcement purposes. We believe all students should have the same rights and responsibilities and should be treated with respect. We believe federal policies should support and facilitate the important work of international programs in the interest of educational enrichment and national security.
