MAINTAINING WEB PAGES

Before the project begins, identify the page maintainer and make sure that person is part of the design team and receives proper training for maintaining the site. If possible, web pages should be designed and maintained using the same software program (e.g., Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, Netscape Composer or another web editor).

Web pages are often designed with the help of outsiders such as graphic artists, computing professionals, writers and student web developers. After the initial work is done, these people may no longer be available to assist with maintaining the site.

Supervisors who wish to have content in department web pages should address the issue of ongoing maintenance before development begins.
