COPYRIGHT ISSUES

Unless otherwise indicated, all text and artwork appearing on the web are protected by copyright and should not be reproduced without written permission from the copyright holder. Contact the maintainer of a document for information about specific information or graphics.

You may not publish information on the World Wide Web that is prohibited by law or disallowed by licenses, contracts, copyrights or University regulations. Groups or individuals are responsible for information they publish; they should be aware of University policies pertaining to confidentiality and the use of computers, particularly the Policy for Responsible Computing at the University of Delaware.

All departments and all web page authors are responsible for keeping their web documents in compliance with copyright rules and with UD guidelines and policies.

Departmental home pages, the first pages of major documents, and original material (e.g., research or artwork) should have copyright notices either in the signature block at the end of the document or in a copyright file accessible from the document.

Include copyright information for two reasons:

  • It helps remind people that copyright law pertains to all forms of expression--including web pages.

  • Should a matter come up in litigation, it is one of the things--like registering a copyright at the US Copyright Office--that helps document who owns the rights and whose rights take precedence.
