COLORS & BACKGROUNDS
Starred items (**) address accessibility

Legibility is the most important consideration in the choice of colors and backgrounds. It is particularly difficult to read light text on a dark background.

Required:

**Use colors that contrast with each other, such as black text on a white background, to differentiate text and background. The greater the contrast, the more legible the page.

**Be sure that all important information conveyed with color is also available without color from the context or markup.

Recommended:

**Limit using background patterns. If you use them, very low contrast images work best.

Use browser-default link colors.
