Synchronized Skating
Synchronized Skating is one of the fastest growing disciplines of the
four disciplines that are offered through US Figure Skating. 8-20
skaters performing footwork, difficult formations and intersections at
high speeds require skill in many areas including individual, dance, and
pairs. Moreover, one must understand team concept, respect and
sportsmanship.
The University of Delaware’s Synchronized Skating Program currently has
7 teams. This makes our program one of the largest synchronized skating
programs in the United States.
In the 2004-05 season, our program sent 4 teams to the National
Championships in Lowell, MA. All 4 of those teams came in the top 6 in
their divisions. Every skater in our program is a dedicated athlete and
very serious about the sport. For younger skaters, we do have a
Preliminary Team. This team introduces synchronized skating to those new
to figure skating. Please see our website for more information.
For the 2005-06 season, we are pleased to announce that our program will
merge names creating one new, fresh name to represent our entire program
“Team Delaware”. It is our hope that this name will promote cohesiveness
within the teams, as well as create fluidity for the skaters in moving
up through the levels.
Our college team has also decided to retire the name "Precisionaires"
and keep the University of Delaware Synchronized Skating Team for their
name. This team is unique in the fact that all skaters must be full time
college students at the University of Delaware.
