League rules

GENERAL LEAGUE RULES
  • A. Rules will follow USA Hockey Guidelines with the additional local amendments added below:
    • a. Fifteen Penalty Rule - For a team receiving 15 penalties in a game a stoppage of play will result and the current score being recorded as final if the offending team is losing or as X – 0 loss if the offending team is winning or tied. This rule is intended to prevent “out of control status” since we cannot penalize an acting coach with the infraction.
    • b. Fighting –
      • Fighting will result in an immediate game suspension and a $25 fine, which must be paid prior to the player playing in the next game.
      • Any player given more than one fighting penalty will be expelled for the remainder of the season. No refunds will be given.
      • A double minor counts as two penalties towards the team max of 15.
    • c. Five Penalty Rule – For an individual receiving 5 penalties in a single game, the player will receive a game misconduct
    • d. Physical Abuse of Officials – Physical abuse of the officials will result in permanent expulsion from the league. No refunds will be given.
    • e. Equipment – Full equipment will be required of all senior league players (neck guards optional).
    • f. Game Misconduct x 1 – Players must sign in before and after the game on the game misconduct form in order to have served the full penalty.
    • g. Game Misconduct x 3 – Any player with 3 or more game misconducts will sit 2 games for every violation thereafter.
    • h. Team/Individual Penalty Minutes:
  • B. Games are 15 minutes periods with no overtime.

  • C. GAME SCHEDULE: All teams will play the 20 game schedule. All games that are canceled or postponed will be made up.

  • D. GAME SHEETS: ALL players must SIGN in on the game sheet prior to the start of your schedule game. PLEASE PRINT clearly so we can keep track of # of games each player plays. If a player does not sign game sheet they will NOT get credit for playing in the game.

  • E. All teams make the playoffs and playoffs are single elimination. Championship game is best 2 out of 3.
    • I. Playoff position is based on team points total, if teams are tied at end of the season record head to head will be used.
    • II. If teams are still tied, team with most Wins will be awarded the higher seed.
    • III. If teams are still tied point differential (GF vs. GA) will be used to determine seeding.
    • IV. If teams are still tied, coin-flip will decide seeding.
  • F. PLAYOFFS: ONLY PLAYERS who have played in 8 games (40% of the season) or more are eligible to play in the end of the season tournament. There will be NO exceptions to this rule. Prior to the playoffs starting we will send each team captain a list of players who are eligible for the playoffs for every team in the league and a list of players who are ineligible if they didn't meet the 8 game requirement.

  • G. ROSTERS: Initial roster is due prior to the team’s first game. AFTER November 17, 2006, rosters MAY NOT BE CHANGED; there will be no exceptions to this rule. Players CANNOT BE ADDED AFTER November 17, 2006 as well. After this date each team captain will be given the roster of the other teams in the league. It's the team captain’s job to check the scoresheet prior to game to ensure everyone on the scoresheet is on the other teams roster.

  • H. GOALIES:
    • Goalies must have played in 4 games to be eligible for playoffs
    • A team may borrow a goalie from another team registered with the league in the event their goalie is unable to compete. This should be used in emergency situations only.
    • In the event an eligible goalie is unable to compete in the playoffs, a team may borrow a goalie from another team ONLY if that goalies team has been eliminated from the playoffs.

  • I. RECREATION LEAGUE: Please remember this is a recreational. This league is suppose to be fun for all teams involved. Jeff and Stas are not going to scout each team to ensure everyone is at a certain playing level. If a team captain thinks a player on another team is above the playing level for this league, please bring to Jeff’s attention and we will address with the team. UD student teams may not have any STARTING UD Hockey Club players on their team.

  • J. League Points:
    • a. 2pts for a win
    • b. 1pts for a tie
    • c. 0pts for a lose

  • K. Sportsmanship – Players are to conduct themselves as adults and demonstrate proper respect towards teammates, opponents, officials, and rink staff. Excessive displays of bad attitude both on and off the ice will result in discipline against the entire team.

  • L. If there are any problems or concerns during the season the captain of the team should be the representative to address these issues with the University of Delaware representatives. Individual players need to first address situation with team captain.

  • M. Alcohol is not allowed in the ice arena or on University of Delaware property. Team captains are to ensure no alcohol is brought into the building.

  • N. Teams have access to one free hour of ice, based on ice availability during the fall/winter season September 17, 2006-March 23, 2007.

  • O. E-mails throughout the season will be sent to team captains with updated information.
