PERFORMANCE EVENTS TECHNICIAN III (T8) 
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

NATURE OF JOB:
Under limited supervision, provides technical support requiring technical and aesthetic judgment for performance events. The principal emphasis is the assessment, negotiation and coordination of technical needs and requirements for mounting a variety of performance events.


EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on unit assignment, the following are typical examples of work: 

* Assesses the needs and requirements included in technical riders to performing groups’ contracts; 
* Negotiates with tour managers, sound engineers and lighting directors to meet performance needs within the capabilities and limitations of Mitchell Hall and Pearson Auditorium;

* Estimates costs and calculates bills for services and equipment used; 
* Maintains the performance event venues in safe and proper operating condition;

* Identifies, locates and contracts for special staffing, staging, lighting and audio equipment; 
* Designs lighting plans and directs the setup, staging and lighting for events ranging from professional touring artists to major convocations to VIP speaker presentations;

* Directs and coordinates the activities of stage and technical crew members during rehearsals and live performances ranging from professional touring artists to major convocations to VIP speaker presentations;
* Provides backup for Performance Events Technicians I and II; 
* Performs other related duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:

Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a vocational/technical specialization in theater technology or the completion of a USITT certificate training program in theater technology and seven years of progressively responsible experience in theater staging and lighting, or an Associate's degree or two years of college study in theater technology and four years of experience in the operation of a professional theater venue, or two years of experience as Performance Events Technician II. Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions and read floor plans and lighting diagrams; basic computer literacy and knowledge of computing hardware connections; basic lighting design knowledge; the ability to solve problems under time constraints and the ability to work independently. Must be able to communicate effectively with people having varied levels of technical knowledge and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, set pieces, rigging and audio equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to accurately discern colors and the pitch, tone and volume of sound.
