MICROCOMPUTING SPECIALIST III (T8)
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

NATURE OF JOB:
Under limited supervision performs a variety of microcomputing support duties. The principal emphasis is on managing departmental microcomputing functions; independent judgment is required in the application and development of microcomputing procedures. 

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Depending on divisional assignment, the following are typical examples of work
:
* Troubleshoots and repairs difficult computing hardware and software problems; 
* Installs, maintains, and repairs microcomputers and computer-related equipment; 
* Performs complex software maintenance; 
* Evaluates equipment performance and recommends changes and upgrades; 
* Supervises salaried staff employees; 
* Provides technical support and informal point-of-use training to departmental personnel; 
* Manages day-to-day services and operations; 
* Acts as liaison between University departments; 
* Interprets and executes University and departmental policies and procedures; 
* Recommends and plans improvements in microcomputing services and operations; 
* Performs other related duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES:
Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with four years of relevant microcomputing experience; or bachelor’s degree in computer-related field; or minimum of two years as a Microcomputing Specialist II.  Requires comprehensive knowledge of networking software and current software packages; strong microcomputing skills developed through a variety of technology applications; ability to troubleshoot networking, software and hardware problems; ability to install, maintain, and repair a wide variety of microcomputers and computer-related equipment; ability to solve problems under time constraints; ability to transfer technology concepts across applications; ability to work independently; excellent organizational skills; ability to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, and students; and ability to communicate technical information to people with various levels of computer expertise and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.   May require supervisory experience. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds may be required in certain positions.
