FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised January 12, 2006 NATURE OF JOB: Under limited supervision, provides technical support requiring technical and aesthetic judgment for meetings and conferences. The principal emphasis is the assessment, negotiation and coordination of technical needs and requirements. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on unit assignment, the following are typical examples of work: * Assesses the needs and requirements for media technical support for presentations; * Negotiates with presenters, performers and their representatives; * Maintains technical support facilities in proper operating condition; * Identifies, locates and contracts for special staffing, staging, lighting and audio equipment; * Directs the setup for events ranging from major convocations to VIP speaker presentations; * Directs and coordinates the activities of technical crew members during rehearsals and presentations; * Provides backup for Conference Technicians I and II; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a vocational/technical specialization in media technology and seven years of progressively responsible experience, or an Associate's degree or two years of college study in media technology and four years of experience in the operation of a professional venue, or two years of experience as Conference Technician II. Requires advanced knowledge of presentation media technology, basic computer literacy and knowledge of computing hardware connections. Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions and read floor plans and lighting diagrams, solve problems under time constraints and work independently. Must be able to communicate effectively with people having varied levels of technical knowledge and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to accurately discern colors and the pitch, tone and volume of sound.
