FLSA Status: Nonexempt Revised July 1, 1999 NATURE OF JOB: Under limited supervision, installs and maintains classroom technology systems having integrated control of audiovisual equipment. The principal emphasis is to either perform or direct the installation, troubleshooting and repair of classroom technology systems. Requires a high level of independent judgment; and analytical and problem solving skills to diagnose and repair audiovisual systems. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Depending on assignment, the following are typical examples of work: * Troubleshoots and repairs or directs the repair of technology systems with interconnected audio, video and control equipment that interact; * Designs and programs control system software; * Inspects tests and approves completed installation and repair work; * Provides technical guidance to Classroom Technology Technicians; * Serves as backup for Classroom Technology Technicians; * Researches and evaluates information about equipment capability for purchase recommendation; * Performs other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a vocational/technical specialization in electronics, or the completion of an ICIA certificate training program in the use of audiovisual technology and six years of progressively responsible experience in the troubleshooting and repair of audiovisual equipment, or an Associate's degree in electronics and four years of experience in the troubleshooting and repair of audiovisual equipment. Requires intermediate computer literacy and knowledge of computing hardware and connections, basic programming skills and math skills for electronic calculations. Requires the ability to follow oral and written instructions, including manufacturers’ operation manuals and electronic schematic and wiring diagrams. Requires mechanical aptitude, the ability to use power bench and hand tools and the ability to use electronic test equipment. Requires the ability to solve problems under time constraints and the ability to work independently. Must be able to communicate effectively with people having varied levels of technical knowledge and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires the ability to lift and move, with or without assistance, audiovisual equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
